Birks Holt Sports Club was formed in 2001.
The club was started with money which was generated through the cafe, which is run on match days when Maltby Main are playing at Muglet Lane.
The profit from the cafe, which is run by Jim Liversidge and Brian Cooke, was used to take the children in and around the estate of Birks Holt on outings, sports days and barbecues. A fun bus was hired for the under eight's from around Birks Holt for the day, and the club also took the children on day trips.
In 2002, the kids were asked what they would like to do in the club’s second year of existence and they all wanted to play football
A Committee was formed and some parents were coerced into helping with the running of this new venture.
It was decided to form three football teams:
The Under-12s, managed by Steven Speed with the assistance of Peter Wooten, started in the newly formed Rotherham Junior League and went on to
win the league and the cup, a fantastic acievement for a newly formed club.
The club also entered two teams in the
Sheffield & District Junior Sunday League, one at Under-14s and one at Under-16s.
The Under-14s were run by Stuart Evans and David Beech, and a very good job they did! The Under-16s, run by Steve Loftus, found the going tough as the lads playing for our club had not played team football before, but with the help of Steve they battled on and aquitted themselves well.
The 2003-2004 season saw our club progressing further with the inclusion of a further two teams in the Sheffield Junior League, the committee deciding to put all our teams in the Sheffield league.
The teams did very well in their respective divisions: our Under-12s finished third, our Under-13s and Under-15s runners up.
The club also achieved charter standard.
The club are hoping to run two more teams this coming season (2004/2005).
